Considering a visit or
weekend getaway to Aiken, SC? Let us share the most enchanting historical bed
and breakfasts around to make that visit extra special.
As the fall weather approaches,
we all start to dream of cooler nights, cozy fires at a charming historic B&B.
We wanted to share some of
the most prominent Inns in Aiken that also offer remarkable Aiken History, culture
and charm.
First on our list is right
across from our Meybohm Downtown office, the Carriage House Inn located at 139
Laurens Street NW.A perfect location in
the middle of charming downtown Aiken, the Inn is in walking distance to unique
shops and local restaurants/bars. The Carriage House was originally the Efron
family home in 1872.In the late 1800's
the Inn was alive and well, guests from all over would come and visit. Fred
Astaire could be seen dancing at different birthday parties at the home as the
stories go. Today the Carriage house is a quaint bed and breakfast with a
picture-perfect front porch made for quiet coffee mornings. The Carriage House
offers rooms for any budget. From a traditional deluxe queen room to a premium
suite with a veranda overlooking the beautiful courtyard.
Just out of the hustle and
bustle in a sweet town referred to as Montmorenci; an easy 5-10 minutes east of
downtown Aiken is a local bed and breakfast called Annie's Inn. Located at 3083
Charleston Highway. Annie's Inn was established in the early 1800's. The Inn
was built using all the timber that was grown and milled on the property. This
Inn survived the Civil War. Annie's Inn greets you with a beautiful brick walk
way and stately oak trees. This Greek Revival Plantation is where old world
meets serenity. Guests have the choice of lounging by the sparkling pool or
heading into downtown Aiken for a day exploring.
Our last Inn is well
known, located in Aiken Historic district. The Willcox Inn is sure to please. Built
in 1891 by Englishman Fredrick Willcox and his wife Elise, the couple along
with their two sons established a catering company out of their home. Today the
Willcox is still known for its exceptional American based menu with sprinkles
of New Zealand and other international inspirations. With awards by Travel +
Leisure as the 7th best hotel in the world and the Best in the South, the Willcox
is just what you need. The Willcox truly
has something for everyone. Relaxing by the pool, yoga retreat, or a day at the
spa are all options for those who need a slowdown. Are you looking for a little
more excitement? The Willcox has a variety of different packages including: a
golf getaway, learning to play polo, or a private cocktail class. It’s all about the experience at the Wilcox. After
a day of choice, enjoy a quiet dinner at the restaurant followed by a
handcrafted cocktail in front of the beautiful fireplace. This is one of favorite spots during the
holidays…actually, any day.
Now you know a few of the
most prominent places to stay, looking for other options? Aiken also
