Moving day
can be stressful, trust us… we just moved! Stay tuned to learn where to find us
now.
We are
excited to announce the entire Aiken HOMES Team, their smiling faces with the
same exceptional service is now located in the DOWNTOWN Aiken Meybohm office at
142 Laurens St, NW.
We have Eight
Expert Tips to help you with your next move.
1. Do a Deep Purge…Get Rid of ALL Unwanted Items.
The benefits of getting rid of unwanted items before the moving truck arrives is obvious. Less to pack, less to physically move to a new location and less to find a home for once you arrive at your new place.
2. Keep All Important Documents in One
Place
It is
important, to keep all of the documents necessary in one place and accessible
on moving day. Best not pack it away in a moving box; rather, find a safe place
that will not accidently be packed up. Best practice to keep all your sensitive
documents (passports, Social Security cards, marriage certificates, etc.) in a
safe place and move this yourself.
3.
Label Your Boxes
Packing by
room and labeling is a smart move, this will save precious time when unpacking.
We suggest noting contents and numbering the boxes. This way you know which
room the box goes in and what is inside. Numbering each box helps you to know
if a box goes missing. This eliminates stress in those all-important days and
weeks as you and your family are settling in.
4. The Right Size Boxes matters
Smart packers
(or people who have moved a lot in one lifetime) know that the properly sized
box for what you’re packing makes all the difference. Like wardrobe boxes can
make moving lots of clothing much easier. Heavier items are best packed in
multiple, smaller boxes and smaller, lighter items such as linens and kitchen
utensils can be packed in large boxes and moved with ease.
5. Cost saving Tip
Reusing old
boxes or taking recycled boxes from friends and neighbors. Or checking with
your REALTOR if they know any other families who just moved in a home and would
like to dispose of their packing boxes. Then pay it forward and offer your
moving boxes to another family.
6. Have a plan for Moving day
A moving
checklist that contains
written tasks that need to be completed before the move can be particularly
helpful for staying organized and on track. A great idea is once a room is
empty and cleaned, close the door then put painter’s tape on it to signify it’s
all clear and cleaned.
7.) Plan for Additional Costs
Regardless of
the way you choose to move, there are also additional costs.
Don’t forget
childcare and pet care for example, it eliminates worry to have kids and pets
in a safe location then you can focus on the move completely.
Professional
cleanings for either the house you’re leaving or moving into.
Storage fees
and costs, if you need to move some items into a storage unit.
8.) Pack
an Essentials Box. When you arrive at your new
residence, your essentials box will be first thing you unpack.Items you may
want to include: Medications, cleaning
supplies, linens, first aid kit, change of clothes, snacks, First-aid kit, flashlights,
garbage bags, pet supplies, basic tools for quick repairs and disposable
plates, cups, and eating utensils.
Finally Keep smiling! Moving can be manageable, with the
right attitude and thoughtful preparation.
